“Vision without action is a daydream. Action without vision is a nightmare.”
Japanese Proverb

I really like this proverb. The vision without action refers to desiring something but not working towards it, and it is a dream because if you are not working towards it then it might as well be just a dream, not real. Action without vision is when you do something without meaning or purpose, it is a nightmare because if you do something without purpose then it is reckless or not worth anything which is bad.
Nuclear Medicine Technologist

Duties and Responsibilities: In nuclear medicine, radionuclides—unstable atoms that emit radiation spontaneously—are used to diagnose and treat disease. Radionuclides are purified and compounded like other drugs to form radiopharmaceuticals. Nuclear medicine technologists administer these radiopharmaceuticals to patients, and then monitor the characteristics and functions of tissues or organs in which they localize. Abnormal areas show higher or lower concentrations of radioactivity than normal.

Salary: Average Median $70,000 per year

Education: Nuclear medicine technology programs range in length from 1-4 years and lead to a certificate, associate's degree, or bachelor's degree. Generally, certificate programs are offered in hospitals, associate programs in community colleges, and bachelor's programs in 4-year colleges and in universities.

Reflection: I would not like to become a Nuclear Medicine Technologist because it seems complicated and it doesn’t really seem to be something I would be interested in.

Glenn Cunningham

Glenn Cunningham was badly burned at the age of eight. He had lost all of the flesh on his knees and shins and had lost all the toes on his left foot. He also lost his brother Floyd in the fire. The doctor recommended amputation but his parents did not allow it. But after years and years of hard work, determination, and faith he finally was healthy enough to walk and even to run. He eventually went on to becoming a champion athlete. He participated in the 1932 Summer Olympics and the 1936 Summer Olympics. Cunningham’s goal was to run a four minute mile. Even though he never achieved this goal he tried many times each with different strategies. His most successful strategy was to just run his fastest from the start. I guess the only way I could relate to this is that when I was younger and my art skills weren't as good, I tried my hardest to improve them. I knew that my art skills were bad and I wanted to improve them, and i never told myself that I could never get better. And now I am glad I never gave up because my art is better than ever and I am proud of them.

“Adversity causes some men to break—others to break records”
William A. Ward

I think that this quote means that when someone is faced with disaster or misfortune they can either do one of two things: they can break and fall victim, or they can try to overcome it and become a better person overall. When it comes to it, we will only choose to either give in or overcome.
Monitor Surveillance Technician

Duties and Responsibilities: Monitor surveillance technicians observe the electrical activity of heartbeats which is graphically displayed on a series of monitors in cardiac care units of hospitals.  They examine these patterns and provide the results to physicians and nursing staff.
Salary:  $26,000 - $41,000
Education: Requires two 2 years of experience in electronics, computer networks, and familiarity with routers, VPNs, firewalls, security appliances, and basic telephony. Must also have experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of technical investigative/surveillance equipment or an equivalent combination of education (e.g. formal electronics technology program or training in the use, repair and installation of electronic or surveillance equipment) and experience to total two 2 years.

I think that I would like to be a Monitor Surveillance Technician only if I was passionate about it because I think that it is a pretty average job with acceptable requirements and salary.

“The best inspiration is not to outdo others, but to outdo ourselves.”
ANON
I think this quote means that true inspiration should not come from spitefulness but from wanting to improve yourself. If your inspiration is solely to outdo others then your work will not be its best. In order for something to be its best you have to be truly inspired and in order to be truly inspired your sole purpose for doing something is to be better than you were before.
Health Science Librarian
Duties and Responsibilities: A health science librarian provides access to medical information through books, pamphlets, journals, tapes, multimedia presentations, and the internet. They also help health providers, patients, and students sort through the vast amount of info available.
Salary: Average $58,000

Education: Students must graduate from high school, taking classes such as English, math, typing, and science. A four-year bachelor's degree is then required, including courses such as science and computer science. A master's degree in library science (MLS) is mandatory. Courses include scientific literature, bio-medical communication, bibliographic resource use, library organization and management, and standard cataloging systems. While health science librarians are not required to be certified, the Medical Library Association does offer certification examinations which would help a librarian advance to a higher position.
Reflection: I am not sure whether or not to become a health science librarian because it seems like an interesting job but then again it is not my passion and that would be difficult to do if it wasn't my passion.
